Guangzhou Evergrande Stadium, also referred to as Lotus Flower Stadium, is the currently under construction new stadium of Guangzhou Evergrande in the city of Guangzhou in China.
The stadium is getting built to provide the club with a world-class football-specific home to replace Tianhe Stadium and is touted as the first step in a country-wide upgrade of football infrastructure. The stadium has a distinct lotus flower design, inspired by the endemic flower and Guangzhou’s reputation as the “flower city”. With a capacity of 100,000 seats it will become the world’s largest football-specific stadium, just surpassing Camp Nou.
Guangzhou Evergrande Stadium is getting built in the south of the city of Guangzhou next to Guangzhou South Railway Station.
Construction started in April 2020 with expected completion around the end of 2022. It will come at a cost of 12 billion Yuan.
