History and description

Campos de Sport de El Sardinero opened on the 20th of August 1988. It replaced Racing’s previous ground with the same name.

The first match at El Sardinero was played between Racing and Oviedo. Since then, only minor renovations have been performed on the stadium.

Getting there

Estadio El Sardinero is located in the north-east of the town of Santander, at just a few hundred metres from Sardinero beach (Playa del Sardinero).

It is about 2.5 kilometres from the town’s historic centre, and a few hundred metres more from the main train and bus stations. The walk to the stadium should take about 30 minutes.

Many buses pass in the vicinity of the stadium. Line 1, 2, 3, 6, 13, 15 and 20 all go from the centre to Sardinero beach. Stops Los Agustínos and Campo de Fútbol lie almost next to the stadium.
