History and description

Stadion Chornomorets was built in the place of the old Central Stadium that had been built in 1938.

The old stadium got demolished in 2008, after which construction of the new one began. It was hoped that the stadium might serve as a playing venue of the Euro 2012 tournament, but UEFA ruled this out due to uncertainties in the building schedule.

Stadion Chornomorets officially opened on the 19th of November 2011 with a league match between FC Chornomorets and FC Karpaty (2-2).

The stadium has a total of 558 VIP seats and a further 60 corporate boxes that can hold 1,602 people.

The walk from the Potemkin Stairs and the Opera House takes 15 to 20 minutes, that from the main railway station, which lies further south, a few minutes more.
