Estadio Sausalito

Key facts

Club: Everton de Viña del Mar | Opening: 1929 | Capacity: 19,200 seats

History and description

Estadio Sausalito, initially called Estadio El Tranque, got built in the 1920s by the local council to host football matches and cycling events. It officially opened on 8 September 1929 with a match between Santiago Wanderers and Union Espanola, and had a capacity of 18,000 spectators.

The stadium changed name in the 1960s when Vina del Mar and the North-American town of Sausalito became partner cities.

Estadio Sausalito was one of the four playing venues of the 1962 World Cup, hosting six first round group matches including all of Brazil’s, one quarter final, and the semi-final between Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia (3-1).

It was furthermore one of the playing venues of the 1991 and 2015 Copa America. In preparation of the latter, Estadio Sausalito got extensively renovated, modernising the stadium and raising capacity to its current total.

How to get to Estadio Sausalito

Estadio Sausalito is located centrally in the beach resort of Viña del Mar in a park area at about 1.5 kilometres east from the city centre.

The walk from the seafront, slightly uphill, takes about half an hour. It takes no more time to walk from other places in and around the city centre, including Mall Marina in the north of the centre.

If you’re staying in Valparaiso, take the region’s only metro line that can be boarded at several places at the seafront. Get off at stop Vina del Mar or Hospital, from where the walk takes just under 30 minutes. You can shorten the walk a bit by taking a bus on 5 Oriente street. Stay on for a few stops and get off around 7 Norte street.

Everton Tickets

Everton de Viña del Mar tickets can be bought online through Mundoacceso.cl, or in person at the club shop at Mall Marina.

Tickets are generally also available at the stadium before the start of the match.

Expect to pay from $4,000 for a seat behind the goal to $12,000 for a seat at the side.
