Estadio Mario Kempes

Key facts

Club: Club Atletico Talleres | Opening: 1978 | Capacity: 57,000 seats

History and description

Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, previously called Estadio Olímpico Córdoba and often referred to as Chateau Carreras, was built to serve as one of the playing venues of the 1978 World Cup.

Construction started in 1975 and the new stadium opened on 16 May 1978 with a friendly match between the Argentina national team and a team of local players. The stadium could hold 47,851 spectators.

During the World Cup, the stadium hosted five first round group matches and three second round group matches.

In 2010, the stadium changed name to Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in honour of the former Argentina striker.

In 2011, the stadium underwent a large redevelopment in preparation for the Copa America. This included the construction of a second tier, new stands behind the goals, and a roof covering the entire stadium. This raised capacity to 57,000 seats.

Estadio Mario Kempes is currently the home of Talleres de Cordoba, though they’ve played most of their existence at their proper home Estadio ‘La Boutique’. The stadium furthermore occasionally hosts high-profile matches of Belgrano, who normally play their home games at Estadio Julio Villagra.

How to get to Estadio Mario Kempes

Estadio Mario Kempes is located on the northwestern edge of the city of Cordoba, just within the ring road and just under 10 kilometres from the city centre.

Take a taxi to the stadium or take a local bus. Buses 10, 11, 12, 18, and 19 run along Av. Rafael Nunez, one of the city’s main avenues, which passes close to the stadium. Take the bus from, for example, 27 de Abril or the Bus Terminal.

Talleres Tickets

Talleres tickets can generally be bought at the ticket windows of their home stadium Estadio Boutique de Barrio Jardín in the days before the match, though arrangements can differ per match. Estadio Boutique is located in the south of Cordoba at 3-4 kilometres from Cordoba’s city centre.

Tickets can also generally be bought at Estadio Mario Kempes on the day of the match. Member-only restrictions can apply for certain matches.
