History and description
Estadio Ciudad de Lanús – Nestor Diaz Perez, often nicknamed La Fortaleza, officially opened on 24 February 1929, though it took another month for the first match, Lanus vs Platense (5-2), to be played at the stadium.
The stadium was initially not more than a few small bleachers around a pitch, but one year later construction of larger wooden stands started, and in the next years the stadium reached a capacity of about 30,000.
In the early 1960s, a first concrete stand was built, but for the next few decades few improvements were made.
Estadio Ciudad de Lanus got almost completely rebuild between 1990 and 2003, replacing the wooden stands with concrete stands. Since then, only minor improvements have been made to the stadium, including the construction of a roof in 2010.
How to get to Estadio Ciudad de Lanus
Estadio Ciudad de Lanus is located in the city of Lanus in the south of the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area. It lies about 13 kilometres south of the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires’ centre (microcentro) and about 16 kilometres south from the upscale Palermo and Recoleta areas further north.
The stadium lies only a short walk (10-15 minutes) south of Lanus’ city centre and train station. If coming from Buenos Aires, catch a train from Plaza Constitucion station, which is on line C of the Buenos Aires metro. Lanus station is served by frequent commuter trains going south on the Roca lines (e.g. to Glew, A. Korn, Chascomus, Ezeiza, Canuelas, Claypole, and Gutierrez).

Tickets for Lanus games can be bought at the ticket windows of Estadio Ciudad de Lanus, typically from a few days before the match and on the day before the start of the match.
Ticket prices can depend on the opponent, but expect to pay between AR$ 250.00 and AR$500.00 for a ticket.

Lanus-San Martin was the first game of 10 I attended in Argentina. Train from Constitution to Lanus takes around 10 minutes and then another 15 minutes by foot. Tickets are sold in a small building opposite the main stand. The most expensive was 640 pesos and it was a plastic card with ticket loaded onto it. Just remember what stand your ticket is for as there is no information on the card so you would struggle to find the correct gate. If you do not speak Spanish it is best to take a photo of price list attached to the building where tickets are sold and show security. They direct you to correct gate. It was nice experience, but low attendance did make It less memorable. The game ended 1-1 with home team scoring equaliser in 92nd minute. After the game just follow the crowd back to the train station.
