Allianz Field

Key facts

Club: Minnesota United FC | Opening: 2019 | Capacity: 19,400 seats

History & description

Allianz Field is the newly opened Minnesota United soccer-specific stadium. It formed part of the entry proposal of expansion team Minnesota United to the MLS.

The official plan for the stadium got announced in late 2015, six months after Minnesota got awarded the MLS franchise. There was an official groundbreaking ceremony in December 2016, but actual construction did not start until the summer of 2017.

The stadium came at a cost of $250 mln, significantly more than initial estimates of $150 mln. The project was fully privately funded, though the city paid towards infrastructure improvements. It is hoped that the stadium will help in revitalising the Midway area of St. Paul.

During construction, Allianz was announced as name sponsor resulting in the name Allianz Field.

Minnesota United played their first few seasons in the MLS at TCF Bank Stadium before Allianz Field officially opened in 2019.

The first match at the stadium was played on 13 April 2019 when MNUFC hosted New York City FC for a league match.

How to get to Allianz Field

Allianz Field is located in the Midway area of St. Paul which lies roughly 7.5 miles east of downtown Minneapolis and 5 miles west of downtown St. Paul.

The stadium lies just off the Interstate 94 motorway that connects downtown St. Paul with downtown Minneapolis. Take exit Snelling Avenue, though parking at the stadium is limited on matchdays.

The stadium is, however, easily reached by public transport. Take the green metro light rail line from downtown St. Paul or Minneapolis and get off at stop Snelling Avenue, which is right next door to the stadium. It’s a 20-minute journey from downtown Minneapolis and a few minutes quicker from downtown St. Paul.

Rapid bus line A, which runs along Snelling Avenue, connects the stadium with some northern and southern destinations starting at Rosedale Center in the north running to 46th Street station in the south.

Address: Address: 400 Snelling Ave N, St Paul, MN 55104
