FC Aarau has once again presented plans for the construction of a new stadium, and is full of confidence that this time they may actually get realised.
Aarau has long tried to built a new home that can replace the old and dilapidated Stadion Brügglifeld, which with just 1,200 covered seats does not meet top league requirements, but saw all past plans fail.
These failures were mainly due to a reluctant local population that voted down the plans, but the club does not expect such difficulties this time around.
The new plans envision a new stadium in the Torfeld area, along the railroad tracks east of Aarau’s city centre. The stadium will be able to hold 10,000 spectators, which is scaled back from earlier plans that aimed for a capacity of 15,000.
The new stadium will be combined with several development projects, which include a ground floor shopping centre and possible a basement cinema complex.
FC Aarau hopes to be in possession of planning permission in 2013, and have the stadium ready in 2015. The team currently goes on top of Switzerland’s second division.
