History and description
The Liberty Stadium replaced Swansea City’s previous home Vetch Field, where the club had been playing for almost 100 years, but which by the start of the new millennium had severely deteriorated and seen its capacity reduced to a mere 11,000 seats.
With local rugby club the Ospreys also in need of a new stadium, a strong case was made and in 2003 construction of the new stadium started.
The first match at the Liberty Stadium was played on the 23rd of July 2005. The friendly between Swansea and Fulham ended in a 1-1 draw.
Swansea City currently have plans to expand the stadium to a capacity of about 32,000 seats. The club have applied for planning permission and are awaiting a decision of the local council. Works will be undertaken in different stages and start as soon as the club will have received the go ahead.
In recent years, the Liberty Stadium has hosted a few international matches of the Wales national team, with the stadium serving as a more modest alternative to the Millennium Stadium.
How to get to Liberty Stadium
The Liberty Stadium is located in the north of the city of Swansea at about 1.5 miles from the mail rail station and the city centre.
The walk from the rail station to the stadium will take about half an hour. Follow Swansea High Street north until the crossing with Bridge Street. Turn right onto Bridge Street and follow until reaching the stadium.
Alternatively, bus 4, 120, 125, and X20 can bring you from the Swansea bus and rail station to the stadium. Regular buses leave for the 6-minute ride. Get off at stop Landore or Liberty Stadium.
If arriving by car, take junction 45 from the M4 motorway and follow the A4067 towards Swansea. Signs will direct you to the stadium.

Eat, drink, and sleep near Liberty Stadium
The Liberty Stadium is part of a small retail park which includes a few fast food outlets. There is also the odd pub around, but finding something to eat and drink in Swansea’s city centre might be easier.
There are no hotel directly near the Liberty Stadium, but there are various options in Swansea’s city centre that get good reviews and come in different price ranges.

Tickets for Swansea City matches can be purchased online, by phone +44 (0) 844 815 6665, or at the Liberty Stadium ticket office.
Swansea City tends to sell out or close to sell out most games, but tickets for most games are easily available if bought in advance.
Tickets for most matches cost £35.00 for all stands, but prices are increased for six high-profile matches to £45.00.
