NP3 Arena

Key facts

Club: GIF Sundsvall | Opening: 1903 | Capacity: 8,500 (est. 500 standing)

History and description

The NP3 Arena, initially called Sundsvall Idrottspark, opened on 8 August 1903. The stadium was part of a multi-sports complex that also included tennis and bowling facilities.

A new main stand got built in 1928, but over the years the stadium remained a modest affair. The record attendance was set in 1961 when 16,507 people attended a match versus Högadal.

Sundsvall Idrottspark underwent a major redevelopment between 2001 and 2002, during which the stadium got almost completely rebuilt. It reopened on 9 June 2002.

The stadium got renamed Norrporten Arena in 2006 and again renamed in 2016 to NP3 Arena following sponsorship deals. It has had an artificial pitch since 2009.

How to get to the NP3 Arena

The NP3 Arena is located just north of the centre of the small city of Sundsvall. It lies tucked in between the Sundsvall river and the Norra Stadsberget hill.

The walk from the centre, crossing the river, will only take a few minutes. From Sundsvall’s central rail station it is a 10 to 15-minute walk to the stadium.

Sundsvall, located toward the north of Sweden on the Baltic Sea coast, can be reached by direct train from Stockholm. The journey takes about 3.5 hours.

Address: Universitetsallén 6, 852 34 Sundsvall
