History and description

Stade de l’Aube was built in 1924, and, despite a first upgrade in 1956, for long remained a rather modest stadium with two small covered stands at the long sides and earth banks at the ends. The stadium was at that time oval-shaped.

In the 1970s, Stade de l’Aube would occasionally fill up with up to 17,000 spectators, but after the descend of Troyes to the fourth division in the 1980s, often not more than a 1,000 fans showed up.

Troyes’ fortunes returned in the 1990s, and after the club promoted to Ligue 1 in 1999, a more modern stadium was needed.

Building works started with the demolition of the Marathon Stand in April 1999, which got replaced by a new all-seater stand, finished a few months later.

Works continued with two new stands at both ends, and were completed with the opening of a new main stand in 2004, fully enclosing the stadium on its western side.
