I have to say, the stadium is an immense disappointment. It’s dreadful. The area is appalling – the article above references ‘one or two bars and cafes’, I’m afraid this is completely untrue. The whole area is a wasteland in the middle of nowhere. And the stadium itself feels about 2 decades out of date. The bowl itself isn’t bad – though a bizarre gap between the lower and upper tiers means you are too far from the pitch in the upper tier. What’s really striking is that behind the seats there is basically nothing. One or two small food and drink outlets housed in a grim concrete concourse. It’s simply incomparable to the new Tottenham ground, or to Wembley or the Arsenal stadium (the after two being a decade older than this monstrosity).

Sad for Atletico as they’re my favourite Spanish team, but this move will kill them. Nobody wants to go to this stadium. Within a few years they’ll be lucky to get 30k turning up. It’s that grim. Leaving the iconic, central and beautiful Calderón for this might be the worst trade in history
