Nothing ever compared with standing on the Popside lvel with Alan Hinton as he floated in those inch perfect corners. We used to love comparing the immaculate pitch in the programme with the quagmire that was our twelfth man. Football heaven, except fot the mens' loo!

The Baseball Ground was a fine example of the traditional English football stadium. With three high stands and the terracing only a couple of feet or so from the touchline, the atmosphere was electric and doubtless intimidating to the away team. It certainly was for mine (Sheffield United), for in 8 visits from 1969 to 1975 (6 league, 1 FA Cup and 1 Watney Cup) we lost them all, three by 3 goals. I doubt whether Pride Park, or whatever they call it now, can generate the same atmosphere!
